Designing Surveys
There are many aspects to designing a good survey. These include:
- Providing visual stimulation
- Writing good varied styles of questions
- Keeping the survey as short and succinct as possible
- Giving the Respondents enough information to enable them to answer the questions, and respecting the Respondents' wishes at all times.
- Selecting the best question type to elicit the response you want and to provide the response in the best format for analysis.
- Creating a Logical flow
- Thorough testing of the survey before presenting it to the target audience
- Make sure the Survey is relevant to your target audience
- Provide clear instructions
- Giving the target audience enough space to fully record their response to an open question
The style and content of the survey will be affected by:
- The method of administration;
- The type and nature of the target audience
- The information required
- The marketing objective
- The media files you have access to

The wording of the questions and providing full response options are vital to obtain good accuate results.
Make sure:
- The questions are clearly worded and straightforward
- The Target audience will understand the question
- The question elicits the response you require
- The wording of the question remains neutral to avoid bias
- The target Audience can answer the question
- Where appropriate include a response option 'Don't know'.
- Or provide for the Respondent to select the 'Best answer' available where 'Don't know' isn't an option.
